Prescott has a unique place in the history of hillclimbing. Here Stirling Moss had his first drive in a racing car, the first ever Cooper made its competition debut and in later years Peter Collins and Graham Hill and many other famous names joined the ranks of Prescott competitors.

Run The Hill

At Prescott you will ascend the hill from standing start to flying finish. A good start is vitally important, avoiding wheelspin, to make the most of your run. It's all about speed, power, handling and precision. Prescott's tough and demanding 1,127 yard course is suitable challenge for even the top drivers which is sometimes mastered but never beaten.

1) The start straight leads up to the deceptive off camber left hander. In a very quick car like a 106 you just got to get the speed off gently else you'll be straight over the middle. Either that or totally commit, cut tight as you can and try to get straight for the next.
2) The next corner is a tricky right hander - too curved to take as a hairpin and too tight to take as two squared corners and very hard to keep on power through.
3) Hairpin - brake very very late as you are going uphill and force on the front tyres is huge - unlikely to lock up and even then speed scrubs off very fast. I prefer to go in wide, cut up short and drag the car out the corner in as low a gear as possible, but seen others take it wider as take it too tight and you end up with wheels all over the place.
4) The "straight" after the hairpin wiggles. I found with a stiff rear end all the steering can be done on the throttle and use the front wheels to drag it straight again after. You can take it almost as a straight line though.
5) Left hander, again come in wideish and take fairly tight and get out fast - plenty of time to get over to the left afterwards for the big one.
6) Get over to the left, once the apex has been hit bury the loud pedal and drag the car towards the bank on the right. You should be carrying enough speed to guide it round and up to the finish.
7) All runs up the hill are strictly non competitive and you only have yourself to beat. However DON'T end up in the gravel as you will quickly lose your friends who are waiting for their run!
